Procurement & Supply | Twenty-Six Countries Sign Cargo Documents Convention in Accra
Ghana hosted the opening for signature of the United Nations Convention on Negotiable Cargo Documents on 26 October. Twenty-six countries signed at the Accra ceremony, according to Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Ministry and UNCITRAL.
The Convention is designed to support negotiable cargo documents in paper and electronic form across different transport modes. Its objectives include easier trade financing, sales of goods in transit and more streamlined documentation for multimodal journeys.
Signature is an initial step towards adoption. The UN treaty register listed the Convention as not yet in force on 4 November 2026. Ghana’s government has announced plans to begin the domestic processes towards ratification.
Industry perspective — editorial: Importers and logistics providers can monitor ratification and implementation as the framework develops; existing documentation requirements continue to matter.
